Bab Doukkala Grand Mosque

This 16th-century mosque was constructed during the Saadi dynasty and is located near Bab Doukkala, one of the historic gates of the Marrakech medina. Visitors go here to observe Saadi-era architecture and experience a site of local Islamic worship and community life.

Getting There

The mosque is situated within the old city. From the center of Marrakech, it is accessible via a short taxi ride or a walk through the medina streets. Depending on your starting point in the city center, the journey typically takes 10 to 20 minutes.

Duration of Visit

Allow approximately 30 to 60 minutes to view the exterior and the surrounding neighborhood. Access to the interior may be limited for non-Muslims, so most visitors spend their time observing the structure from the perimeter.

When to Visit

The site is best visited during the morning or late afternoon to avoid the midday heat. As an active place of worship, it is most crowded during the five daily prayer times and on Fridays. Visitors should dress modestly and remain quiet during prayer hours.
