Le Panier
Le Panier
Le Panier is the oldest district in Marseille, characterized by a network of narrow, winding streets. Visitors go here to walk through the historic neighborhood, view street murals, and visit local craft workshops and small shops.
Getting There
The neighborhood is located adjacent to the Old Port (Vieux Port), which is the center of the city. From the city center, it is accessible via a short walk of approximately 5 to 10 minutes.
Time Allocation
Allow 2 to 3 hours to explore the lanes and browse the workshops at a steady pace.
When to Visit
Morning visits are generally quieter. The area becomes crowded during the summer months and on weekends. Because of the narrow streets and hilly terrain, comfortable walking shoes are necessary.
