Pirelli Tower
Pirelli Tower is a slender, 127-metre office skyscraper that has stood over Milan's skyline since the late 1950s. Most visitors experience it as a piece of architecture to look at rather than a place to go inside — the tapering concrete-and-glass form is one of the clearest examples of Italian post-war modernist design in the city, and it now houses offices of the Lombardy regional government. There is no general public observation deck, so the appeal is the building itself: its silhouette, its slim profile from different angles, and its place at the edge of Milan's business district.
Getting there
The tower stands right next to Milano Centrale railway station, on the Via Fabio Filzi side. From the city centre (Duomo), take metro line M3 (yellow) to Centrale FS, or M2 (green) to the same stop, then walk a couple of minutes. The trip from Duomo takes roughly 15-20 minutes door to door.
How much time to allow
Because the interior isn't set up for casual visitors, 15-30 minutes is enough to walk around the exterior, take photos from the piazza in front of Centrale station, and move on.
When to go
Any time of day works for viewing the facade, though the area around Centrale station gets busy with commuter traffic during weekday rush hours. Late afternoon light tends to work well for photos of the glass front.
