About the Site

Colline du Château is a historic hilltop park overlooking the bay. A military fortress stood here from the 11th to the 18th century before being captured by French forces in 1705 and demolished the following year. Today, the site contains historic ruins, walking paths, park grounds, and viewpoints over the coastline.

Getting There

The top can be reached from the surrounding lower district on foot via marked stone stairs in about 15 to 20 minutes. A public elevator and winding paved pathways also connect the base to the plateau.

Time to Spend

Plan for 1 to 2 hours to explore the paths, see the former fortress ruins, and view the coast.

When to Visit

Visiting in the morning or late afternoon provides cooler temperatures for the ascent. The summit viewpoints and main walkways get crowded during midday and peak holiday travel periods.
