Grotte du Lazaret

The Grotte du Lazaret is a prehistoric cave site situated on a cliff overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. It serves as an archaeological site where evidence of Paleolithic human habitation and various animal fossils have been excavated. Visitors go here to see the physical remains of early human settlements and the geological formations of the coastline.

Getting There

The site is located on the outskirts of the city center. Access is typically via local bus or taxi, taking approximately 10 to 15 minutes depending on traffic conditions.

Duration of Visit

Allow roughly 1 to 2 hours to explore the cave area and the surrounding cliffside terrain.

When to Visit

The site is outdoors and exposed to the elements, making spring and autumn the most temperate seasons for a visit. To avoid the midday heat and the largest groups of visitors, morning arrivals are recommended.

Combining with Other Attractions

Due to its location, this site can be paired with other nearby landmarks in Monaco and neighboring Nice:

  • Colline du Château: 1.3km
  • Musée d'art moderne et d'art contemporain de Nice: 1.8km
