What It Is

The Japanese Garden is a compact public park located in Monaco's Larvotto district, adjacent to the Grimaldi Forum. The grounds incorporate stylized landscape elements, including artificial hills, waterfalls, ponds, and a dry Zen garden. Visitors go for a quiet, contemplative walk in a landscaped green space set against the principality's dense urban backdrop.

Getting There

From central Monte Carlo, the site is an easy 10- to 15-minute downhill walk toward Avenue Princesse Grace. Local public bus routes also connect the city centre to stops right next to the convention centre.

Time to Spend

Allow 30 to 45 minutes. Because the footprint is relatively small, this provides ample time to walk the loop trails, view the water features, and rest on the benches.

When to Visit

Early morning and late afternoon are the best times to avoid crowds. Midday can become busy with visitors and attendees from events at the adjacent conference venue. Spring and autumn provide the most comfortable walking temperatures, whereas summer afternoons can be warm.

Nearby Attractions

The garden's location makes it straightforward to combine with other stops within walking distance:

  • Le Portier (0.1km): A neighbouring coastal district just steps away.
  • Saint-Charles Church (0.3km): A nineteenth-century church situated slightly inland.
  • Opéra de Monte-Carlo (0.4km): Historic theatre and opera venue in the central district.
  • Larvotto (0.5km): The seaside area featuring the main public beach and promenade.
