Artigas Mausoleum
The Artigas Mausoleum is a monument and burial site dedicated to José Artigas, a national hero of Uruguay. Located in the center of Independence Square, the site consists of a large statue above ground and an underground chamber where Artigas' remains are kept. Visitors go here to see the tomb and observe the ceremonial guard of soldiers in traditional uniforms who stand watch over the site.
