Manoel Theatre

The Manoel Theatre is a historic performance venue built in 1731. It is recognized as the oldest working theatre in the Commonwealth and the third-oldest in Europe. Travelers visit this site to experience its preserved architecture and to attend a variety of contemporary stage performances, including plays, and musical events.

Getting There

The theatre is located within the historic center of Valletta. Since it is situated in the heart of the city, it is easily accessible on foot from most central points. Depending on your starting location within the city center, the walk typically takes between 5 and 15 minutes.

Visit Duration

If you are attending a performance, allow 2 to 3 hours. For those visiting primarily to appreciate the architecture of the venue, 45 to 60 minutes is generally sufficient.

When to Visit

The best time to visit depends on the performance schedule. Evening shows are the most common, but it is advisable to check the current program before planning. The venue can become crowded shortly before curtain call, so arriving early is recommended to avoid congestion at the entrance.
