Muscat Gate Museum
Overview
Muscat Gate Museum is set inside the arched gate spanning the main road into Old Muscat. Exhibits focus on Oman's history, port trade, and defensive architecture. Visitors can walk along the upper level and old city walls to see how the historic settlement was laid out and fortified.
Getting There
Located on the coastal road connecting Mutrah to Old Muscat, the site is accessible by taxi or car. The drive takes 10 to 15 minutes from Mutrah or Ruwi, and approximately 25 to 30 minutes from commercial districts like Al Khuwair.
Visiting Duration
Allow 30 to 45 minutes. The interior exhibition space is small and straightforward to navigate.
When to Visit
Visit between October and April for comfortable temperatures when walking along the gate. In the summer, go early in the morning to avoid midday heat. The building rarely gets crowded, though tour groups sometimes arrive mid-morning.
