Piazza Dante
Piazza Dante is a large semicircular square framed by a curved 19th-century building with a colonnade of shops and cafés, a design that dates to the Bourbon period. At its centre stands a statue of Dante Alighieri by Tito Angelini. It functions as an everyday city space — locals cutting through, a metro stop, market stalls at times — rather than a curated sight, which makes it worth a stop mainly for the architecture and the sense of a working Neapolitan piazza rather than for any single monument.
Getting there
From the historic centre (around Via Toledo or Spaccanapoli), it's an easy 10-15 minute walk. The square is also served by its own metro stop (Line 1, Dante), so from further parts of the city it's a short ride plus a few minutes on foot from the exit.
How long to stay
15-20 minutes is enough to see the square, the statue, and the colonnade facade. It's really a passing-through point rather than a destination to linger at.
When to go
Morning or late afternoon tends to be calmer, since the square is a traffic and transit hub and can feel busy with commuters and passing scooters during the day. There isn't much shade, so it can be uncomfortable to sit around in midsummer heat.

Piazza Dante sits close to several major sights in the historic centre, making it easy to link together on foot:

- Santa Chiara (0.3km)
- Basilica of St. Dominic (0.4km)
- Cappella Sansevero (0.4km)
Since these are all within a few minutes' walk of each other, Piazza Dante works well as a starting or ending point for a walking route through Naples' old town.
