Athol Island

Athol Island is an uninhabited landmass located approximately 1.2 kilometers east of Paradise Island. As part of a national marine park, it is primarily visited for snorkeling due to the clarity of the surrounding waters.

Getting There

The island is accessible only by boat from the Nassau area. Travelers typically arrange water taxi services or private charters from the city center or nearby docks. The transit time is short, usually taking less than 30 minutes depending on the departure point.

Duration of Visit

Most visitors spend between three to six hours on the island. This allows sufficient time for swimming, snorkeling, and resting on the beach before returning to the mainland.

When to Visit

The island is best visited during the morning or early afternoon to take advantage of the sunlight for underwater visibility. Like many popular spots near Nassau, it can become crowded during peak tourist seasons and on weekends. Visitors should be mindful of the Atlantic hurricane season, which typically runs from June to November.

Nearby Attractions

Because the island is only accessible by water, it is efficient to combine the trip with other nearby maritime destinations. Options include:

  • Blue Lagoon Island (1.7km)
  • Paradise Island (6.7km)
  • Nassau Public Library (7.5km)
  • St. Andrew's Presbyterian Kirk (7.8km)
