Overview

Ciyou Temple is an 18th-century Taoist complex dedicated to Matsu, the goddess of the sea. Located in Taipei's Songshan District, it features multi-tiered halls, ornate stone carvings, and detailed roof ornamentation. Visitors come to observe active religious rituals, traditional architectural craftsmanship, and local ceremonies.

Getting There

From central Taipei, take the MRT Songshan-Xindian Line (Green Line) or a local train to Songshan Station. The journey takes approximately 15 to 20 minutes, and the station exits lead directly toward the entrance plaza.

Time to Allow

Plan for 30 to 45 minutes to walk through the main courtyard, side shrines, and upper-level halls.

When to Visit

Late afternoon is a practical time to visit, allowing you to view the architectural details in daylight and see the building illuminated after dusk. The site becomes heavily crowded during Matsu's birthday, when grand processions and ceremonies take place, as well as on weekend evenings.

Nearby Attractions

A visit can be combined with several sites in the surrounding area:

  • Raohe Street Night Market (0.5km)
  • Cathay Landmark (1.6km)
  • Farglory Financial Center (1.9km)
