What It Is

The National Human Rights Museum documents Taiwan's martial law era and human rights history. Located on the grounds of a former military detention center in New Taipei City, the complex preserves original courtrooms, prison barracks, and historical records related to the White Terror period.

Getting There

From central Taipei, take the Taipei Metro Green Line toward Xindian and alight at Dapinglin Station or Shisizhang Station. From either station, the complex is a short walk or local bus connection across the river. The total trip from Taipei Main Station takes approximately 30 to 40 minutes.

Time to Spend

Set aside roughly 2 to 3 hours to read the archival displays and walk through the preserved detention facilities and outdoor memorial areas.

When to Visit

Weekday mornings provide a calm atmosphere. The site does not generally get crowded with general tourists, though educational groups occasionally visit during school terms.

Nearby Attractions

You can combine your visit with other sights located north across the river:

  • Taipei Cultural Mosque (3.5km)
  • Taipei Grand Mosque (4.5km)
  • Daan Forest Park (4.7km)
  • Taipei Taiwan Temple (4.9km)
