Lake Ngardok

Lake Ngardok

Located on Babeldaob Island, this is the second-largest natural freshwater lake in Micronesia. Visitors go here to observe pristine freshwater ecosystems and the endangered saltwater crocodiles that use the lake as a habitat and breeding ground.

Getting There

The lake is situated in the interior of Babeldaob. Since Ngerulmud is a small administrative center rather than a dense city, travel is primarily by rental car or guided tour. The drive from the central areas of the island typically takes 15 to 30 minutes depending on the specific starting point and road conditions.

Duration of Visit

Allow approximately 2 to 3 hours to explore the lake area and the surrounding environment. This provides sufficient time for wildlife observation and walking along the accessible paths.

When to Visit

The lake is accessible year-round. Early morning or late afternoon is generally preferred for wildlife spotting, as crocodiles are more active during these cooler periods. The site does not typically experience heavy crowds compared to the main tourist hubs in Palau.

Nearby Attractions

The lake can be combined with other sites on Babeldaob Island to create a full-day itinerary:
