Eleftheria square
About the Square
Eleftheria Square is a public plaza in central Nicosia where major streets converge. Designed by architect Zaha Hadid, it features striking modern design, with fluid concrete walkways and landscaped open areas built into the moat. Visitors come to view the contemporary architecture and use it as a pedestrian connection between the historic walled city and modern areas.
Getting There
Located in the city centre, the site is reached on foot within 5 to 10 minutes from most central locations. Local buses stop nearby. Those arriving from Larnaca International Airport (LCA) can take an airport bus or taxi to central Nicosia, followed by a short walk.
Time to Allow
Plan for 30 to 45 minutes to walk through the upper walkways and lower landscaped sections.
When to Go
Early morning and evening are ideal, especially to avoid midday heat during the summer. The area gets crowded with pedestrians during late afternoon and evening hours.
