Ancient Theatre of Ohrid

Built around 200 BC, this site is the only Hellenistic-style theatre in North Macedonia. It is situated between two hills, a location that protects the seating area from wind. Visitors go here to see the preserved stone tiers and the stage area, which continues to be used for cultural performances and concerts.

Getting There

The theatre is located within the old town of Ohrid. From the city centre, it is accessible via a short walk through the historic streets. Depending on your starting point, the walk typically takes between 10 and 15 minutes.

Most visitors spend approximately 30 to 60 minutes exploring the seating area and the stage. If a performance is taking place, allow several hours.

When to Visit

The site is open-air, making it most accessible during the spring and summer months. It can get crowded during the peak summer tourist season and during scheduled festival dates. Visiting in the early morning or late afternoon helps avoid the midday sun.
