Trebeništa Necropolis

Trebeništa is an Iron Age necropolis situated near the northern shore of Lake Ohrid. This archaeological site contains the remains of ancient burial mounds used by the local Illyrian populations. Travelers visit the site to view the structural remains of these prehistoric graves and to understand the early settlement patterns of settlement in the region.

Getting There

The site is located outside the main urban center of Ohrid. It is most easily reached by car or taxi. The drive from the city center typically takes approximately 15 to 20 minutes, depending on traffic and the specific starting point.

Duration of Visit

Most visitors spend between 1 and 2 hours exploring the grounds. The site is relatively compact, allowing enough time to walk through the remains and observe the layout of the burial mounds.

When to Visit

The site is outdoors and exposed to the elements, making spring and autumn the most comfortable seasons for a visit. To avoid the midday heat of the summer, morning or late afternoon visits are recommended. The area does not typically experience the high crowd levels found in the central Ohrid Old Town.
