Spanish Wall

The Spanish Wall consists of the remaining sections of a colonial fortress built by Spanish administrators in Palikir following a local uprising in 1887. Originally extending 0.8 kilometers in length and reaching a height of 2.4 meters, the surviving ruins provide a physical record of the island's colonial history and the conflicts of the late 19th century.

The site is located in the Palikir area. Visitors arriving from the city center typically travel by rental car or hired taxi. The journey takes approximately 15 to 20 minutes depending on road conditions.

Visit Duration

Most visitors spend between 30 and 60 minutes exploring the remaining wall sections and the immediate surrounding area.

When to Visit

Visiting during the morning or late afternoon is recommended to avoid the midday heat. The site is outdoors and exposed, so travelers should check local weather forecasts for rain. It does not typically experience heavy crowds.
