Independence Square, Podgorica
Independence Square
Independence Square is the central administrative and cultural hub of downtown Podgorica. Visitors go here to observe the city's civic architecture and access key public institutions. The square is flanked by the municipal library and the national art gallery, making it a functional starting point for those interested in the city's local governance and arts.
Getting There
The square is located in the heart of the city centre. If you are staying in the downtown area, it is accessible via a short walk of a few minutes. For those arriving from other parts of the city, local transit or taxis drop passengers directly at the perimeter of the square.
Time Allocation
Depending on whether you intend to visit the adjacent gallery or library, allow between 30 minutes to 2 hours. A walk through the square itself requires very little time.
When to Visit
The square is open and accessible at all hours. During the summer months, the open area can become very hot during midday; visiting in the early morning or late afternoon is more comfortable. It can become crowded during local public events or holidays.

Because of its central location, the square is within walking distance of several other sites:
- Montenegrin National Theatre (0.2km)
- Adži-paša's bridge (0.4km)
- Depedogen (0.4km)
- Millennium Bridge (0.5km)
