Lime Cay

Lime Cay is a small island located off Port Royal on the northeast side of the reef. Visitors go there primarily for the clear waters, which are suitable for swimming and relaxing away from the mainland.

Getting There

The island is accessible only by boat. Travelers typically arrange water taxi transport from the Port Royal docks. The journey from the Portmore and Kingston area takes approximately 20 to 30 minutes depending on the departure point and sea conditions.

Duration of Visit

Most visitors spend a half-day or a full day on the island. Because there are limited facilities, the length of the stay is usually determined by the scheduled return of the boat transport.

When to Visit

The island is best visited during the morning and early afternoon to take advantage of the daylight. Like many popular coastal spots in Jamaica, it can become crowded on weekends and public holidays. It is advisable to visit on weekdays for a quieter experience.

Nearby Attractions

Since the island requires a boat trip, it is practical to combine the visit with other sites in the Port Royal and Kingston area. Nearby locations include:

  • Plumb Point Lighthouse (4.6km)
  • National Gallery of Jamaica (5.8km)
  • Holy Trinity Cathedral (7.3km)
  • National Heroes Park (7.9km)
