About the Museum

The National Museum Soares dos Reis is an art museum housed in the historic Carrancas Palace in Porto. Visitors come to explore collections of Portuguese fine and decorative arts—including 19th- and 20th-century sculpture, painting, and ceramics—while walking through preserved neoclassical palace rooms and a central courtyard garden.

Getting There

Located west of the city centre, the site is reachable on foot from central hubs like Praça da Liberdade or Clérigos in approximately 15 to 20 minutes. Several local bus lines also serve the area, stopping along Rua de Dom Manuel II directly outside the grounds.

How Much Time to Allow

Plan to spend between 1.5 and 2 hours to explore the permanent galleries and temporary exhibitions at an unhurried pace.

When to Visit

Weekday mornings and early afternoons are generally the quietest periods. The galleries rarely experience heavy crowding compared to Porto's central architectural landmarks, making for a straightforward visit in any season.
