Overview

The Palácio Presidencial is a neoclassical landmark in Praia, Cape Verde. Built around 1894 as the Portuguese governor's residence, it became the presidential palace after independence. Travelers visit to see its 19th-century colonial architecture while exploring the historic Plateau district.

Getting There

Located in the Plateau neighborhood, the site is a two- to five-minute walk from anywhere in the city centre. Taxis from other districts or Praia International Airport (RAI) can drop passengers off right at the Plateau.

Time to Spend

Plan for 15 to 20 minutes. As an active government building, visits consist of viewing the exterior facade and grounds from the street.

When to Go

Daylight hours are best for viewing the architecture. Early mornings and late afternoons provide cooler walking conditions. The area does not get heavily crowded.
