Faro de Punta del Este

Built in 1860, this lighthouse is located at the easternmost point of the peninsula. Visitors go here to view the Atlantic Ocean and the surrounding coastline from the tip of the city.

Getting There

The lighthouse is located at the end of the peninsula. From the city centre, it is accessible via taxi or local transport. The trip typically takes 10 to 15 minutes depending on traffic conditions.

Duration of Visit

Most visitors spend between 30 and 60 minutes at the site, which is sufficient to walk around the base and observe the views.

When to Visit

The site is open to the air, making it susceptible to wind and weather. It gets crowded during the peak summer season when tourism in Punta del Este increases. Visiting during the early morning or late afternoon provides different lighting for the coastline.

Nearby Attractions

Because of its location, the lighthouse can be combined with other nearby points of interest:

  • Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria: 0.1km
  • Brava Beach: 1.9km
  • Mansa Beach: 2km
  • Gorriti Island: 2.5km
