What It Is

Örfirisey is a reclaimed former island located in the Grandi district beside Reykjavík's Old Harbour. Once separated from the mainland at high tide, it is now permanently connected, providing an open coastal space for walking along the waterfront and observing local seabirds.

Getting There

From central Reykjavík, walking takes approximately 15 to 25 minutes by heading northwest along the harbor through Grandi. The route is flat and straightforward on foot or by bicycle.

Time to Spend

Allow 30 to 60 minutes for a relaxed walk around the area, taking in views of Faxaflói bay and watching coastal wildlife.

When to Go

Visits are possible year-round. Summer brings long daylight hours suitable for evening walks, whereas winter requires timing visits with the limited daylight. Because the area is exposed to the open sea, wind and cold can be intense. It generally does not draw large crowds, offering a quiet atmosphere throughout the week.
