Zaķusala

Zaķusala is an island located in the Daugava River in Riga. It is primarily known as the site of the Riga Radio and TV Tower, the tallest structure in the Baltic states. Visitors go here to view the tower from the ground or ascend it for a panoramic view of the city and the surrounding river landscape.

Getting There

The island is accessible from the city centre via the bridge connecting the mainland to the island. Depending on the starting point in the centre, it takes approximately 10 to 15 minutes by car or taxi. Public transport options are available, though travel times may vary based on the route.

Duration of Visit

Allow between 1 and 3 hours for a visit. This provides enough time to walk around the base of the tower, observe the riverside environment, and complete a trip to the observation deck if desired.

When to Visit

The island is accessible year-round. During the summer months, the riverside areas are more active. To avoid the largest crowds, visit on weekdays rather than weekends. The observation deck is typically most crowded during peak tourist seasons.
