Overview

Morne Watt is a 1,224-meter stratovolcano in southern Dominica, standing as the island's third-highest peak. Located within a national park that features volcanic terrain such as Boiling Lake and the Valley of Desolation, it is primarily visited for challenging wilderness trekking through rainforest and volcanic landscapes.

Getting There from Roseau

The peak lies east of Roseau. Driving from the city centre to the national park trail access points takes approximately 30 to 45 minutes by car or taxi along inland mountain routes.

Time to Allow

Budget a full day for the trip. The round-trip ascent and descent on foot generally requires 5 to 7 hours of demanding hiking.

When to Visit

Start early in the morning to secure sufficient daylight and avoid heavy afternoon rainfall. The drier months between February and May provide firmer ground and clearer conditions. The trail does not get crowded due to the physical difficulty of the route.
