Overview

Kühberg is a 711-meter hill on the slopes of Gaisberg, east of Salzburg. It offers forested hiking trails with views over the city, and medieval Neuhaus Castle stands partway up the route.

Getting There

From central Salzburg, local buses reach the trailheads in about 15 to 20 minutes. Walking directly from the old town takes 35 to 45 minutes.

Time to Allow

Set aside 1.5 to 2.5 hours for a round-trip walk, including time to view the castle and take in the scenery.

When to Visit

Spring through autumn provides the most reliable trail conditions. Mornings and late afternoons offer cooler temperatures and clear lighting. Weekend foot traffic is moderate, but paths rarely feel crowded. Avoid winter ascents without proper footwear due to ice.
