The Mühlstein is a 1,059-meter mountain located at the western edge of the Osterhorn range, approximately 8 km southeast of Salzburg. Travelers visit this location primarily for hiking and nature walks. There are two operational mountain huts on the mountain where hikers can stop for rest and refreshments.

Getting There

The mountain is located outside the Salzburg city center. Access is typically via car or local transport to the base of the Osterhorn range. The drive from the city center takes approximately 15 to 20 minutes, depending on traffic.

Time Requirement

Visitors should allow between 3 to 6 hours depending on the chosen trail and the amount of time spent at the mountain huts. This includes the ascent, descent, and breaks.

When to Visit

The best time to visit is during the spring, summer, and autumn when hiking trails are clear and the mountain huts are active. It is advisable to start the ascent in the morning to ensure a descent before dark. Like many popular hiking spots near the city, it can become crowded during weekends and public holidays.
