Berchtesgadener Ache

The Berchtesgadener Ache is a river formed by the convergence of the Ramsauer Ache and Königsseer Ache in Berchtesgaden. It flows through the landscape before joining the Salzach River near Anif, on the outskirts of Salzburg. Travelers visit this area to observe the natural river course and the surrounding alpine environment.

Getting There

The river spans a wide area between Berchtesgaden and Salzburg. To reach the sections near the city of Salzburg, you can take local public transport or drive toward Anif. From Salzburg city centre, the journey to the outskirts where the river meets the Salzach typically takes 20 to 30 minutes by car or bus.

Duration of Visit

Because this is a natural waterway rather than a contained site, the time spent here depends on your activity. A short walk along the banks or a brief stop to observe the confluence usually requires 1 to 2 hours.

When to Visit

The river is accessible year-round. Spring and summer are the primary seasons for those walking along the banks. To avoid the largest crowds, visit during weekday mornings. Be aware that water levels can fluctuate based on seasonal rainfall and snowmelt from the mountains.

Nearby Attractions

You can combine a visit to the river with other nearby points of interest:

  • Schloss Goldenstein (3.1km)
  • Salzburg Zoo (3.1km)
  • Hellbrunner Berg (3.3km)
  • Mühlstein (4km)
