Overview

The Castro is a historic neighborhood situated near Eureka Valley in San Francisco. Originally a working-class residential district, it developed into one of the most prominent LGBTQ+ cultural centers in the United States. Visitors come to walk its streets, view historical landmarks, and explore independent retailers, cafes, and local venues.

Getting There

From downtown San Francisco around Market Street or Union Square, the area is directly accessible via the Muni Metro light rail to Castro Station or by riding the historic F Market & Wharves streetcar. The journey typically takes 15 to 20 minutes.
