Moncada Barracks

The Moncada Barracks is a national monument in Santiago de Cuba. It marks the site of the 1953 attack that served as a catalyst for the Cuban Revolution. Visitors go here to see the preserved military installations and learn about the political history of the country. The site is named after General Guillermón Moncada, who fought during the war of independence against Spain.

Getting There

The barracks are located on the outskirts of the city. From the city centre, you can reach the site via taxi or local transport. The trip typically takes about 10 to 15 minutes depending on traffic.

Visit Duration

Allow approximately 2 to 3 hours to walk through the grounds and view the exhibits.

When to Visit

Morning visits are recommended to avoid the midday heat. The site can get crowded during national holidays and anniversaries related to the revolution. There is no specific season to avoid, though the region is warm year-round.
