Fortaleza Ozama

Located at the entrance to the colonial city of Santo Domingo, this fortress is the oldest surviving European military structure in the Americas. It overlooks the Ozama River and is part of a UNESCO World Heritage site. Visitors go here to explore early colonial military architecture and walk through the historic fortifications.

The fortress is situated within the Colonial Zone (Zona Colonial). From the city centre, it is accessible via a short taxi ride or a walk, depending on your starting point. The journey typically takes 5 to 15 minutes.
