Alcázar de Colón

The Alcázar de Colón is a museum housed in the first European-style fortified palace built in the Americas. Constructed between 1511 and 1514, the building served as the residence of Diego Colón. Visitors go here to see the restored Gothic-Plateresque architecture and the historical exhibits detailing the early colonial period of the New World. The site is located within a UNESCO World Heritage zone.

Getting There

The palace is located in the Zona Colonial, the historic heart of Santo Domingo. If you are staying in the city centre, it is easily accessible via a short taxi ride or a walk, depending on your exact location. From the central colonial district, it takes only a few minutes to reach on foot.
