Grbavica

Grbavica is a residential neighborhood located within the Novo Sarajevo municipality. Divided into two sections I and II, it consists of a mix of apartment blocks, local shops, and streets. Travelers visit this area to observe the daily routines of Sarajevo residents and experience a less tourist-centric side of the city.

Getting There

The neighborhood is located east of the city center. It is accessible via local trams or buses. Depending on the starting point in the center and traffic conditions, the journey typically takes 10 to 20 minutes.

Time Allocation

Because it is a residential area rather than a single monument, two to three hours are generally sufficient to walk through the streets and observe the local atmosphere.

When to Visit

The area is best visited during the day when local businesses are open and residents are active. It does not typically experience the heavy tourist crowds found in the Old Town (Baščaršija). All seasons are suitable for walking, though spring and autumn offer the most moderate temperatures.

Nearby Attractions

The neighborhood is positioned close to several cultural and historical sites. You can combine a visit here with the following locations:

  • Church of the Holy Transfiguration (0.8km)
  • Vraca Memorial Park (0.9km)
  • Historical Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina (1.4km)
  • National Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina (1.5km)
