Bukchon Hanok Village
Overview
Bukchon Hanok Village is a preserved residential district in northern Seoul spanning the Gahoe-dong and Samcheong-dong neighborhoods. Situated between two major royal palaces, it contains traditional wooden homes alongside art galleries, craft workshops, and local cafés. Visitors come to walk the network of alleys and observe historical Korean architectural styles within an active urban neighborhood.
Getting There
From central transit points like City Hall or Myeongdong, take Seoul Subway Line 3 to Anguk Station. Walking north into the neighborhood takes roughly 15 to 20 minutes from the station area.
Time to Spend
Allow 1.5 to 2 hours to walk through the alleys, explore side streets, and stop at a café or gallery.
When to Visit
The area gets crowded from late morning through mid-afternoon, especially on weekends. Early morning is preferable for quieter streets. Because this is an active residential area, visitors should keep noise to a minimum. The terrain features sloped streets, so wear comfortable walking shoes.
