Nature
Dobongsan
Overview
Dobongsan is a granite mountain spanning northern Seoul and Gyeonggi Province, forming part of Bukhansan National Park. Hikers visit for its rocky ridges, forested valleys, and elevated views over the metropolitan area.
Getting There
From central Seoul, take Subway Line 1 or Line 7 directly to Dobongsan Station. The main trailheads are a short walk west of the station exits. The subway ride from downtown areas takes approximately 45 to 60 minutes.
Time to Spend
Plan for 3 to 6 hours depending on the route. Shorter walks to lower temples take roughly half a day, while reaching the rocky peaks and completing a circuit takes 5 to 6 hours.
When to Visit
Spring and autumn provide the most comfortable weather for hiking. Summer is hot on the exposed rock faces, while winter brings ice to the trails. The area gets heavily crowded on weekends, so visiting on a weekday or starting early in the morning is recommended.
Nearby Attractions
A visit can be combined with other sites in northern and central Seoul:
- Bukhansan National Park (4.1 km) and Bukhansan (4.8 km): The adjoining southern portion of the national park.
- Blue House (13.2 km): The former presidential compound in central Seoul.
- Bukchon Hanok Village (13.4 km): A historic district of traditional houses, easily reached when returning downtown.
