Shusha Fortress
Overview
Shusha Fortress consists of the defensive stone walls surrounding Shusha's old town. Originating from the Panahabad Fortress built by regional founder Panah Ali Khan, the structure preserves centuries of military architecture. Visitors come to walk along the ramparts and see the surviving stone fortifications.
Getting There
Located right beside the city center, the walls are accessible on foot within 5 to 10 minutes from central streets. Ganja International Airport (GNJ) is the closest commercial airport serving road connections into Shusha.
Time to Allow
Allocate 45 minutes to 1 hour to walk the main wall sections and examine the gate masonry.
When to Go
Late spring through early autumn provides comfortable weather for walking outdoors. Midday sun can be strong along the exposed walls, so morning or late afternoon visits are best. Crowds are usually light to moderate.
