About the Temple

Baksei Chamkrong is a Hindu temple situated within the Angkor Archaeological Park in Siem Reap. Dedicated to Shiva, the sanctuary is said to have once housed a golden statue of the god. Constructed as a stepped pyramid of laterite topped with a brick tower, it offers travellers a direct look at early Khmer pyramid architecture and intricate doorway lintel carvings.

Getting There

The site is located along the northern route from Siem Reap toward Angkor Thom. Travelling by tuk-tuk or taxi from the city centre takes roughly 15 to 20 minutes over a distance of around 8 kilometres.

Time to Allow

Plan for 20 to 30 minutes at the location. Because the monument has a compact footprint, this provides sufficient time to walk around the base and view the exterior masonry.

When to Visit

Early morning and late afternoon are the best times to visit to avoid direct midday sun and high heat. The grounds do not get heavily crowded compared to major Angkor complexes. The dry season from November to April brings reliable weather conditions.
