Armenian Church of Saint Gregory the Illuminator
This is the oldest surviving Christian church building in Singapore, completed in 1835 and consecrated the following year. It was built for the city's small Armenian merchant community as a parish of the Armenian Apostolic Church, an Oriental Orthodox denomination. Although the last resident Armenian priest left in the late 1930s, Armenian and Oriental Orthodox services are still held there. Visitors come mainly for the compact neoclassical building itself, its surrounding garden, and the adjoining memorial cemetery, which together offer a quiet contrast to the museums and gallery nearby. Getting there
The church sits on Hill Street in the Museum Planning Area, within Singapore's Central Area.
