First Xi–Ma Meeting
On 7 November 2015, Ma Ying-jeou, Chairman of the Kuomintang (KMT) and President of the Republic of China, and Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and President of the People's Republic of China, met in Singapore. The meeting was the first between the political leaders of the two sides of the Taiwan Strait since the end of the Chinese Civil War in 1949 and the first since the meeting between Chiang Kai-shek and Mao Zedong in Chongqing during the Double Tenth Agreement in August 1945.
What it is
This is a commemorative site marking where Ma Ying-jeou and Xi Jinping held their meeting on 7 November 2015, the first face-to-face encounter between the top political leaders of mainland China and Taiwan since 1949. There is not much to see in a conventional sightseeing sense; the appeal is standing at the location of a historically significant diplomatic moment rather than any grand structure or exhibit.
Getting there
It sits within Singapore's central area, close to the Botanic Gardens and the Istana. From the city centre, a taxi or ride-hail trip typically takes about 10-15 minutes depending on traffic, and it is also reachable on foot or by a short bus ride if you are already exploring the Orchard or Tanglin area.
How long to spend
Fifteen to thirty minutes is enough for most visitors, particularly if you are combining it with other stops nearby rather than making it a dedicated outing.
When to go
As an outdoor or low-key site rather than a ticketed attraction, it does not draw heavy crowds. Visiting during daylight hours makes it easier to read any plaques or markers. Singapore's weather is consistently warm and humid year-round, with afternoon showers common, so a morning visit tends to be more comfortable.
