What It Is

The Hollow Church consists of the excavated stone remains of an 11th-century Romanesque church located within the wider Salona archaeological area near Split. Travellers visit to see the exposed stone foundations and architectural footprint of early medieval Croatia in an open-air archaeological setting.

Getting There

The site is located in Solin, roughly 5 kilometres northeast of Split city centre. A local bus or taxi ride takes about 15 to 20 minutes. From Split Airport (SPU), reaching the area by road takes approximately 20 minutes.

Time to Allow

Allow 30 to 45 minutes on site to view the foundation walls and walk around the excavated perimeter.

When to Visit

Because the ruins are entirely outdoors with little shade, visit during the morning or late afternoon in the summer months. Spring and autumn provide cooler walking conditions. The area rarely sees heavy crowds, offering a quiet visit.
