Vasa Museum

The Vasa Museum is a maritime museum in Stockholm that houses the 17th-century warship Vasa. The ship sank on its maiden voyage in 1628 and was salvaged in 1961. Visitors go here to see the preserved vessel and exhibits detailing Sweden's maritime history.

Getting There

The museum is located on the island of Djurgården. From the city centre, you can take a bus or a ferry. The journey typically takes 15 to 30 minutes depending on the transport method and departure point.

Time Requirement

Allow approximately 2 to 3 hours to view the ship from multiple levels and read the accompanying historical displays.

When to Visit

The museum gets crowded, particularly during the summer months and peak holiday seasons. To avoid the largest crowds, arrive early in the morning or visit during the weekday off-season.

Nearby Attractions

Because of its location on Djurgården, the museum can be combined with other nearby sites:

  • Nordic Museum (0.2km)
  • ABBA: The Museum (0.4km)
  • Skeppsholmen (0.5km)
  • Museum of Far Eastern Antiquities (0.6km)
