Taronga Zoo
Taronga Zoo
Located on the shores of Port Jackson in the Mosman area, this zoo houses a wide variety of animal species. Visitors go here to see wildlife in an environment that provides views of the Sydney harbor skyline.
Getting There
From the Sydney city centre, the most common route is via a ferry from Circular Quay. The trip across the water takes approximately 15 to 20 minutes, followed by a short cable car or bus ride up the hill to the zoo entrance.
Time Allocation
Because of the zoo's size and the hilly terrain, visitors should allow at least 4 to 6 hours to walk through the exhibits and view the animals at a steady pace.
When to Visit
Arriving early in the morning is recommended to see animals when they are most active and to avoid the midday heat. The site gets crowded during school holidays and on weekends. Spring and autumn offer the most moderate temperatures for walking.
Nearby Attractions
The zoo's location allows for easy combination with other harbor-side sites. Depending on your transport, you can visit:
- Sydney Opera House (2.9km)
- Port Jackson (1.8km)
- Shark Island (2.3km)
- Darling Point (2.5km)
