Tainan does not have a metro system, making surface transport essential. The most effective modes depend on your destination:

• Bus: The primary network for reaching major landmarks and the Anping District. It is best for budget travelers and those visiting dispersed sites.
• Ride-hailing (Uber) and Taxis: The most efficient choice for short hops between narrow alleys in the old city center where buses cannot enter.
• Rental Scooters: Ideal for independent travelers comfortable with local traffic, as they provide the fastest access to hidden temples and street food stalls.
• Trains: Used primarily for traveling between Tainan Station and the High Speed Rail (HSR) station.

Payment and Passes

The EasyCard or iPASS are the standard contactless options. These are highly recommended for bus and train commuters to avoid handling exact change. These cards do not suit travelers who only plan to take one or two taxi trips and do not use public transit.

From Kaohsiung International Airport (KHH) to Tainan

Since Tainan lacks its own airport, visitors arrive via KHH:
