Overview

The Caves of Hercules are an archaeological and geological cave site on Cape Spartel in Tangier. The complex features underground chambers shaped by wave erosion and historic stone quarrying. Travellers visit to explore the rock formations and observe the cave opening facing the Atlantic Ocean.

Getting There

The site is located about 14 km west of central Tangier. A taxi or car drive from the city centre takes approximately 20 to 30 minutes under normal traffic conditions.

Time to Spend

Plan for 30 to 45 minutes to walk through the main chambers and viewing areas. An hour is sufficient if you also explore the outside surroundings.

When to Visit

Visit during morning hours to avoid tour groups. The site gets crowded during summer afternoons and weekends. Cave walkways can be damp, so wear shoes with good grip.
