Changangkha Lhakhang

Located at the end of a ridge overlooking Thimphu, this monastery dates back to the 13th or 14th century and is the oldest in the city. Visitors come here to observe traditional Bhutanese religious practices; it is a frequent site for parents bringing their children to receive blessings.

Getting There

The temple is situated within the city limits of Thimphu. From the city centre, it is a short drive or a steep walk up the ridge. Depending on the mode of transport and traffic, the journey typically takes 10 to 15 minutes.

Duration of Visit

Allow approximately 45 to 90 minutes to explore the grounds and the interior of the temple.

When to Visit

Visiting during the morning hours allows you to see local devotees performing their daily rituals. The site can become crowded during local religious festivals or auspicious days of the lunar calendar.
