St. George's Cathedral
Overview
St. George's Cathedral is the principal Roman Catholic cathedral in Timișoara. Built in the 18th century, it is one of the largest Baroque structures in Southeast Europe. Visitors go to view its classical Baroque exterior, interior vaulted ceilings, and historic altar artwork.
Getting There
The cathedral is located directly on Union Square in the city centre. From most points downtown, it is accessible on foot within 5 to 10 minutes. The surrounding area is pedestrian-only, with public transit stops situated a short walk outside the square.
Visit Duration
Plan to spend 20 to 30 minutes inside to view the nave and altars, with a few extra minutes for the exterior facade.
When to Go
Mornings offer the best light for examining the interior. Because this is an active church, sightseeing is restricted during religious services. Expect larger crowds on weekends and Catholic holidays.
