Overview

Allan Gardens is an urban park and botanical conservatory located in Toronto's Garden District. The central feature is a complex of six interconnected greenhouses housing a collection of tropical plants, cacti, and seasonal floral displays. Outside the glasshouses, the park grounds include paved walking paths, an off-leash dog park, and a children's playground.

Getting There

From downtown Toronto, the park is approximately a 15-minute walk northeast from central hubs like Yonge-Dundas Square. Streetcars running along Carlton Street or Dundas Street also provide direct access, stopping within a short walk of the main entrance.

Time to Spend

Plan to spend roughly 45 minutes to 1.5 hours to tour the six greenhouses and walk the surrounding grounds.

When to Visit

The heated conservatory makes this an appealing stop during the cold winter months or on rainy days. Midday on weekends is typically the busiest time, particularly on the outdoor grounds. Weekday mornings offer the quietest experience inside the greenhouses.

Nearby Attractions

The park can easily be combined with several downtown landmarks within walking distance:

  • St. Michael's Cathedral: 0.8 km southwest
  • Massey Hall: 0.9 km southwest
  • Church of the Holy Trinity: 1 km west
  • Toronto Eaton Centre: 1 km west
