Overview

Palm Islands Nature Reserve consists of three limestone islands off the coast of El Mina, west of Tripoli. The area features eroded rock formations meeting the Mediterranean Sea, offering an open coastal environment for walking and viewing marine landscapes.

Getting There

From central Tripoli, travel west to the harbour at El Mina, which takes about 10 to 15 minutes by car or taxi. From the port, boats make the crossing to the islands in roughly 20 to 30 minutes, depending on sea conditions.

Time to Allow

Plan for two to four hours on the islands. This gives sufficient time to walk along the shore, see the rock formations, and rest before taking a return boat.

When to Visit

Summer offers the calmest waters for crossings. Morning visits help avoid peak midday sun. Weekends during peak season can get crowded with day-trippers; weekdays are quieter. Do not attempt to visit during high winds or rough seas.
