Munkholmen is a small island located in the Trondheim Fjord. Historically, the site has functioned as an execution ground, a monastery, a fortress, and a prison. The island is reached via a ferry departing from the Trondheim city center. The boat trip is short, typically taking around 20 minutes to cross the fjord from the mainland to the island docks.
